Gillespie

With the government of Queensland opening-up farmlands for closer settlement, a much-reduced Glengallan homestead block was purchased at auction by the Gillespie family - millers from Melbourne and Sydney. Mrs Clara Gillespie and her sons, George and Alex, took up residence. The property later passed to Alex Gillespie who married Keena Waugh, the widow of a former army friend. They had four children, John, twins Gertrude and Judith and Marie, before the untimely death of Alex in 1927. Unable to continue the farm enterprise on her own, Mrs Gillespie and her children moved to live with her parents in Toowoomba before relocating to be closer to the Gillespie family in Sydney. The property was taken over by the bank and subsequently sold to neighbouring property owner Oswald Slade.
