Annual General Meeting
Two new directors were elected at the September 23 annual
general meeting of
Glengallan Homestead Trust Ltd.
Joy Mackay, company director, of Canning Downs, and Warwick
businessman Ross
Fraser were elected to the vacancies created by the retirement
of Peter
Stewart and Trevor King.
Returned to the Board were chairman Donna Fraser, vice-chairman
Doug
Roulston and Honorary Treasurer Col Smith together with Directors
Fr Brian
Sparksman, Bill Goddard, Gary Hayes and Helen Judd.
The meeting was chaired by Glengallan Homestead Trust Patron
Mr John Barnes,
who welcomed the new directors, both of whom have long association
with
Glengallan, and thanked retiring directors for their contribution
to the
Glengallan Board.
Deuchar Dinner with a Difference
A freak summer storm, accompanied by high winds, hail and
a lengthy
blackout, made the 2007 Deuchar Dinner an event to remember.
Guests are asking what the Trust might do next year to top
it, with the 90
guests making a hasty retreat indoors midway through their
third course.
Under emergency lighting and with candles retrieved from
the dinner table,
organisers diverted half the assembly upstairs while director
Bill Goddard
had soon drawn a cosy fire in the drawing room and guests
enjoyed impromptu
dinner music provided by chairman Donna Fraser at the piano.
One guest later remarked it was "the best-ever",
with guests having great
opportunity (no choice, really) to mingle. It was also the
first time, he
said, he had seen Beef Wellington eaten as finger food! The
spectacular
dessert provided some challenge.
Meanwhile, upstairs, there was plenty of joviality and plenty
of red wine bottles lined up along the bathtub.
Book early for the 2008 Deuchar Dinner as they're all promising
to be back!

Winter woollies hark back to famous Glengallan stud
Winter woollies will be out in force but the weatherman says
it will be a
sunny first Sunday in June for the Markets at Glengallan Homestead.
All among the wool will be a lady who bears the title "Australia's
fastest
crocheter". The Toowoomba craftswoman creates artistry
in wool with shades
of the days when Australia rode on the sheep's back and Glengallan
rode on
the reputation of a German Merino ram named "King Billy"
who sired the
famous Glengallan flock.
While you're at the June 3 markets, take the opportunity
to visit the
Homestead and read all about "King Billy" and the
fascinating Glengallan
story.
The free markets offer something for everyone with local
arts and crafts,
farmhouse and gourmet goodies, live music and Devonshire Tea
from the
Verandah Cafe.
Market stalls operate 8am to 1pm on Sunday 3 June at historic
Glengallan,
midway between Warwick and Allora on the New England Highway.
