More About Volunteering
Volunteering is work which:
- provides a service to the community;
- is of benefit to Glengallan;
- is done of one's own free will;
- is done without monetary reward.
It is an expression of mutual commitment
Philosophy
Volunteering at Glengallan Homestead & Heritage Centre
provides a means
through which individuals can actively participate actively
in furthering
the aims and objectives of Glengallan in a way which enriches
themselves and
the wider community.
All volunteers are required to attend an orientation. After
that there will
be:
- On the spot training: with a staff member or another volunteer;
- Ongoing training: As opportunities and needs are recognised,
there
will be regular training on a wide range of subjects.
- Volunteers working with the Public: Specialist training
will be conducted
on presentation skills.

Aim of Volunteer Program
To involve volunteers, in partnership with paid workers, to:
- initiate, enhance and extend Glengallan's interpretation
and programs;
- add a wider community perspective to Glengallan activities;
- increase community awareness and involvement;
- acknowledge the community partnership nature of volunteering
;
- seek to develop the reciprocal links of service that exist
between Glengallan and the wider community.
What Glengallan Can Expect From You
A commitment to:
- regular attendance on the days and hours nominated (health
and emergencies permitting);
- A phone call to Glengallan as early as possible if unable
to attend;
- present a neat and tidy appearance;
- carry out your duties in a professional manner with enthusiasm,
care and commitment.;
- become familiar with Glengallan themes and programs including
temporary
exhibitions.;
- ensure that the image you project to the public will enhance
the status and reputation of Glengallan;
- loyalty to Glengallan and confidentially of information
when necessary;
- positively promote Glengallan activities in the community.
